Nexperia Launches NEH71x0 PMIC Family: Inductor-Less Energy Harvesting for Sustainable Designs
Nexperia has expanded its energy harvesting portfolio with the introduction of the NEH71x0 power management IC (PMIC) family. This advanced PMIC line combines high performance, cost-efficiency, and versatility, establishing a new benchmark in sustainable design for low-power applications. A key differentiator of these devices is their inductor-less design, which significantly reduces circuit board space and bill-of-materials (BOM) cost compared to competing solutions. The NEH71x0 family is available in a compact 4 mm x 4 mm QFN28 package. Target applications include remote controls, key fobs, smart tags, asset trackers, occupancy sensors, environmental monitors, wearables, keyboards, tire pressure monitors, and various Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
These new PMICs provide a complete power management solution for energy harvesting, empowering engineers to extend battery life, recharge batteries or supercapacitors, and even eliminate batteries entirely in certain designs thanks to an integrated cold start feature. The NEH71x0 (including the NEH7100BU and NEH7110BU variants) allows designers to utilize multiple ambient power sources, such as light (photovoltaic), kinetic/piezoelectric energy, or temperature gradients (thermoelectric). With an input power range spanning from 15 μW to 100 mW, these high-performance energy-harvesting ICs can convert energy with efficiencies reaching up to 95%. The devices also feature an on-chip maximum power point tracking (MPPT) adaptive algorithm that optimizes the harvested energy. This algorithm adapts every 0.5 seconds, making the PMIC exceptionally responsive to dynamic changes in environmental conditions.
